This past weekend I had the opportunity attend a Benefit Concert here in Spartanburg county; the purpose of the benefit : To raise money for a JROTC scholarship in the name of Erica Adrianna Fields - the young daughter of Lani McCullough who passed away tragically at a young age. So there are a few intentions I have in blogging this event, and I want to state them plainly: 1. Draw attention to all the entrepreneurs and young creatives in Spartanburg who came out to support this event, and especially the Sky Phoenix organization for having the wherewith-all to put on a semi-formal event in a town where people still wear tall tee's... and 2. To very explicitly call out all the people in Spartanburg who spend their days and nights screaming " Theres nothing to do here" but when someone puts together something, they. don't. show. up. Oh yes, let's get into it.
What is Sky Phoenix
Sky Phoenix is an organization that my good friend Lani McCullough started in the memory of her daughter Erica Fields. I met Lani through our "boss babes of Spartanburg" group (I just made that name up lol), and I learned that the loss of her daughter was just one of the hardships she has had to endure in this lifetime. Instead of allowing her hardships to harden, they motivated her to start the Sky Phoenix Project which does outreach here in our community including but not limited to working with women's shelters, mentoring, and of course, creating scholarships! So of course, when the date for this event dropped, I was there. Lani and her team had a line up of amazing local talent for entertainment, and I was so glad to see the partipcation from Spartanburg's young artist. Lani looked gorge is this cold shoulder sequin ensemble for Burlington, and she planned a lovely event complete with a red carpet 😍, vendors, and a great show! Lets get into it!
Who was there?
This event was basically for the young artist entrepreneurial crowd of Spartanburg (although everyone in Spartanburg should have been there). I was so happy to see a few of my girls from the real boss babes of Spartanburg and also a few local artists who had the pleasure of performing. Keep reading for an overview of the nights guest!
The Local Talent 😍
Why you missed out if you weren't there....
Spartanburg, Spartanburg, Spartanburg.
The land of the Bretisha, and the home of the Tall Tee.
My issue with Spartanburg is this.
We have a fast, fast growing circle of young black artists who are taking their talents seriously and making big community moves. Spartanburg, as a whole, loves to talk about "money moves", but when people are actually making positive leaps and bounds for the black community in our area...Spartanburg is nowhere to be found. In the last few months, I've made a commitment to support my fellow boss babes of Spartanburg, and through this commitment, i've not only gained a new sense of pride in watching my fellow entrepreneurs glow and grow, I have seen glow and growth within my own business just from supporting others. The next time someone puts on a nice event, Spartanburg, I expect to see you all there 👀.
Just an awkward black girl trying to put some RESPEK on my name. I'll be covering your anti-typical "I'm really cheap but I still want to look decent" fashion topics, and your " I only buy make-up less than 10$" beauty topics. As a business owner read about my entrepreneurial journey, and as a hopeless romantic, read about my struggles to find love . If you really real, share, comment and subscribe!
