Oh, Jackie Jackie Jackie
Such a hard time you have given me, and for what? The same pay out of my wet n wild palettes? Before I bought this palette, I didn't even know who Jaclyn Hill was. Well, I'm lying, let me tell the truth. Christmastime came and there was a give-away going around with "Jaclyn Hill Christmas" as the tag, so I thought Jaclyn Hill was the brand name, not a famous youtuber. So when I walked into Ulta one wistful day, and I saw this palette up front and center on display I had no preconceived notions about the palette. The color combinations made my heart flutter. and when I saw the price, I knew she was coming home with me.
I wish I had watched some reviews on the palette BEFORE I purchased it, BUT I did not want to taint my experience as a knew I was going to review this palette. But when I got home, the experience was not the orgasmic shadow swatching I thought it would be.
I made this video a week after I bought the pallet because I wanted to take time to research some looks before I just started messing stuff up. AND I had already tried a few simple looks with it (they didn't come out great great) but I just figured I needed more practice) So when I filmed this video I had a very organized, strategic plan for my look. I was not winging it (even though it the finished product looked like I was🙄
Immediately before beginnging my make up in this video, I attempted to swatch all the colors on my arm. I started with a plain, clean arm, and on the first swatch I basically had to scrape the shadow up to get any color. So I then decided to apply some concealer to my arm to serve as a smoother base, same difference. When I swatched the shades I could not get them to show up well. Even when I got to the darker shades they just didn't seem to be coming out the same color on my skin and with no intensity at all. SO, I said to myself, girl you don't know what your doing, you don't know how to do swatches, lets just move on lol (but after making this video and watching myself put the colors on my eyelid, I see now that I wasn't tripping!)
So I moved on to filming my video. You can see in my video how I play around with a couple different shades to try to get a look, and they don't really show up how I expect. Using a lighter color to base my eyelids definitely helped fix the problem of the intensity of the shades. BUT, the colors didn't really show up how I expected, or how they looked in the palette.
So this is my final review...,
(my personal opinion rather)..,
While this is a good quality purchase, The Jaclyn Hill Palette is NOT a beginners palette and is not really beginner friendly.
Now, Don't misunderstand me.
The Jaclyn hill Palette is good quality eyeshadow. The color selection that you get (35 good shades for 38 dollars) is fantastic and its a great addition to someones make-up kit, including mine. BUT, as a beginner, it has taken so much time and work trying to see how the colors are going to turn up that I spend more time covering over shades (because the colors were so much different then expected) then actually working on my skill at applying them. There are a few shades that show up really pigmented on 1 swipe, so I have accidentally gone overboard, while many of the other shades take layers and layers to show up. Also, The sparkly colors are also not as iridescent as I thought they would be so I was a little disappointed there.
I think that with better brushes, better primer, and more practice I can definitely make some better looks pop with Jackie, so she IS here to stay BUT I wish I had invested in something different at this point and at my skill level because I can't just jump in and practice the actual craft of applying eyeshadow because of the way the colors come out. It will definitely take a lot of time and effort to consistently create good looks with this palette .
So all in all, I'm definitely NOT saying, don't buy the palette. I'm just warning ya that if your a learner like me this one might take some time to master!
