I've been a beauty guru as long as i can remember.
Ever since my mom started letting me pick out what I wanted at the dollar store (at the age of about 6 or 7), i've been testing beauty products and techniques religiously. My first being press on nails. I wore so many press on nails I even knew which glue had the best hold and which glue would cause my nails to start popping across the courtyard before the end of the school day.
This year I've been fortunate to try a couple new products that will be lifelong beauty staples for me, and here they are!...
1. Loreal age Perfect eye Cream / Neutrogrena Hydroboost water gel
So, My stepmom told me to get a good, high quality eye cream in my 20s (start early so that your not trying to catch up to wrinkles in your 40s). It wasn't until I turned 25 that I was like "oh snap", maybe I should go ahead and check on in to club night cream. My skin elasticity is definitely going, and I started to find my dark circles lingering around a little bit longer than just the mornings, or after long nights. While I can't afford a high end department store brand, i've found that these two products work like miracles for what I need them for! The lo'real age perfect eye cream reduced my dark circles and smoothed out any lines in just a few days of wear. This product works wonders but is quite powerful ( irritated my eyes if it got into them, made them sensitive If I wore it morning and night), so I only need to use it a few times a week.
For my (dry dry) skin, I have started using the HydroBoost Water gel. If you have dry skin this product is AMAZINGGGGGGG. It literally infuses water into your skin (or so I believe). I don't know what hoodoo baby jesus chemicals they put in this stuff (actually I do - its hyrdolauronic acid) but it works miracles on dry skin! Just be careful of going overboard as it can actually leave you a little too moist!
2. Bake it up! - Airspun Powder
You guys know I just learned how to "bake" at Christmas time. I always wanted to buy that $20.00 Banana Sacha Powder but my teacher budget always pulled me to the side and says ""ahem* you know makeup budget is >10$ per item" So, I never splurged. I played around with a couple of super cheap powders just to try them out and I just ended up looking like baby casper.. So it wasn't until I saw THIS at the wal-mart and I thought, hmmm... 5.97 for a huge gigantic tub of powder, it can't hurt. I looked up the reviews on my smart phone before buying and they looked alright, so I bought her home.
Best Decision Ever!
This powder is the Bomb.com. I started out with the "Naturally Neutral" and just using it under my eyes and I was immediately impressed with the results. My concealer was so smooth and flat and even better, NO MORE FLASHBLACK. I quickly moved to baking my entire face with a combination of the SUNTAN and Naturally neutral. I will never "un-bake" again! The only con about this powder is that no matter how much you try it gets EVERYWHERE. Its extremely fine and as soon as you open the package it will poof out! Just be mentally prepared. Other than that, this is definitely one of the best beauty products I have ever picked up and will always be a staple in my makeup bag!
Maybelline superstay matte ink lip color
three simple words about this one:
Once this dropped, pretty much everybody who bought it was like "yasssssss". So of course, I was like 👀. Let me go head and see what it is. I was pleasantly surprised! In reality I was more than pleasantly surprised. These colors are absolutely gorgeous ( I currently own seductress, poet and firefight). If your looking for a true soft matte just been kissed look then this is definitely the product for you! (And I hardly ever do matte lips, now i'm addicted.). This formula is a little sticky BUT it has NOT dried out on me yet and does actually stay on forever and ever. (I highly recommend buying the eraser!)
Maybelline master Chrome highlighter
The Maybelline MasterChrome highlighter has been around for quite a while but ya'll know i'm just catching on obvi. Theres not much to say except these 2 highlighters are beautiful and brown girl friendly (no ashyness). I much like the Molten Rose Gold (left) better than the regular Molten gold (right). I don't have any CONS to add about this product. There's plenty of it, its easy to use and it give a very high quality glow in 1 easy step!
NYX Butter Gloss - Fortuny Cookie
I've been using the NYX Buttergloss for some years now BUT this past month i've tried the color "Fortune Cookie" for the first time and its the perfect ultra glossy nude. The NYX Buttergloss is great used alone and is also great to moisten up your lipstick throughout the day. I only wish I could find the oh so elusive clear!! No cons here except that the tube is so small! I would pay $20 for a large tube so I don't have to restock so often!
Neutrogena deep clean Daily Scrub
This year I JUST discovered Neutrogena skin care products (I mean I always knew they were there, but I just started really rethinking my skincare routine this year). Let me tell you..., I don't know what kind of sweet baby tears they put in their products but I haven't found 1 neutrogena product that hasn't helped the quality of my skin. I currently use the neutrogena makeup remover wipes, the hydroboost hydrating cleanser, the hydroboost eyecream, the hydroboost water gel AND now this classic deep clean scrub. For my dry DRY irritated allergy season skin, this is NOT something I would use everyday (even though it really is gentle enough for someone who probably has oily skin) however, 2 or 3 times a week is just enough for me. Immediately after using this my pores are shrunken to extinction and my skin is tight and fresh. The feeling is almost addicting. If your missing a good scrub in your skin care routine I would urge you to try this one!
LA Girls Powder
eSimilar to the L.A. Girls Pro - Conceal Concealer, the L.a. Girl Pro face powder is a hidden holy grail. Priced around $5, I was looking for a simple power to add a little depth to a flat matte face. I got much more than expected in this powder. This product is silky smooth, not chalky or ashy, and the color is so true and warm. This is one of the best powders I have ever used (including MAC and all). I currently use this powder to contour my face and as soon as they come out with more colors I will use it to set my face as well. (They currently have a variety of colors, but I find they have weird inconsistent undertones - some are really red, but one shade lighter the undertone might be really yellow). For now, i'll stick with my cocoa!
What are some new products you have tried this year and would suggest for me? Let me know your "holy grails" below!
