So this past weekend...
I had the opportunity to attend my first official event as Blogger. As someone who just started their blog (in December). this was a big deal. Even though I'm not a person who NEEDS validation, this is one time that I did. As a nobody blogger from a small town where most don't even except the "blog" as a legitimate platform (or read at all so to speak), I NEEDED to be surrounded by people who not only do what I do, but understand the journey holistically. More than I even knew ,before I arrived to the event, I needed to be told that YES what you're doing is good, it makes sense, it IS work (not just a hobby) and most importantly, it will pay off in helping you reach your Goals.
So What was it LIke?
SO, TFGT opted for an intimate venue boasted with feminine Pink, White, Black decor with diamond accents. They had roughly 6 vendors (lashes, headwraps, handbags, apparel) set up on the outskirts of the main floor, and about 8-10 round tables set up for the guest (lovely diamond center pieces by the way). When I first arrived, guest were still coming in so I had my pick of the seats. I was nervous. I didn't know if I would be liked or respected as a small timer in the game. I found a seat next to Ms. Ashley (SimplyCurvee) and we got acquainted. As more and more women came in, I started to loosen up at seeing them network and I tried to jump in (their was definitely a big network opportunity at the end of the event so this was just practice). Once everyone was in and settled, our hostess introduced the panel, we got to the real good good.
The "Meat" of the event..
The Fluffy Girl Tribe put on a well rounded event that included vendors and opportunities to network, but what was really worth Top Dollar (actually it was priceless) was the very open honest and real advice that the above accomplished ladies shared with the audience. I can't give away all the good stuff ( 'cuz yall really need to attend these ladies events") but the most important thing that I took away was that IT CAN BE DONE. Building your blog, your brand, and your business, as a young (black) woman can be done, can be profitable, and can be your full time job. They let us know their personal experiences with things such as
- leaving corporate America
- Hiring first employees
- Online transparency (how much to show and how much to save)
- How to "fake it till you make it" the right way.
and from their advice, I'm already a better blogger and businesswoman. I have confirmation that what i'm doing is not in vain, and I gained some insight and guidance to the game. Well done ladies.
Now what ya'll really came for: The Fashion
I'm just going to be real with ya'll. Here in my town, we have a lot of beautiful hardworking women. However, after years of working and taking care of home (and maybe not dealing with those plaguing self esteem issues from high school), our women aren't quite "there yet" when it comes to self care, self love, and projecting that through their appearance. (But don't worry, imma get us together). So imagine my shock to see that everyone who showed up was finer than a dime ?. GIRL. Let me tell you .
"There was not an ungreased scalp, ashy knee, or corny toe in sight"
And I say that, to say this. These women of all shapes, sizes, socioeconomic status, all took pride in their self care and their self love. It was just a big girl blow out and my heart was literally so full to see everybody in the house literally slaying! (I hate how the current trend in the plus size community is to act like its just a certain group of us that are really "bad" or really take care of ourself and slay often. No ma'am, its a whole bunch of us and HERE THEY ARE! Be sure to tap the photo to follow these ultra fashionable ladies!

All in All, it was a great experience and I cant wait to see these ladies again at our next event! Please check out my story where I will tag the vendors because they had some super cute gear!!
Just an awkward black girl trying to put some RESPEK on my name. I'll be covering your anti-typical "I'm really cheap but I still want to look decent" fashion topics, and your " I only buy make-up less than 10$" beauty topics. As a business owner read about my entrepreneurial journey, and as a hopeless romantic, read about my struggles to find love . If you really real, share, comment and subscribe!
